Coop and Run Size Guide

When considering the size of a chicken coop and run, it's essential to account for the number of chickens you plan to keep. For a small flock of 3 to 5 chickens, a coop should ideally be at least 3 square feet per bird, while the run should offer around 8 square feet per chicken. For larger flocks, such as 6 to 10 chickens, increase the coop size to about 4 square feet per bird and the run to 8 square feet each. For even larger groups, with 11 to 20 chickens, aim for 5 square feet per bird in the coop and 6 square feet in the run. Providing ample space not only ensures the health and well-being of your chickens but also reduces stress and promotes a more harmonious living environment. Planning ahead is key to successful chicken keeping.

Free- Range Coop Size Guide

When raising free-range chickens, it’s important to provide them with adequate coop space to ensure their health and happiness. For a small flock of around 3-5 chickens, a coop size of at least 15-20 square feet will suffice. If you're managing a larger group of 10-12 chickens, it's recommended to expand the coop size to around 30-40 square feet. For more extensive flocks, say 20-30 chickens, a minimum space of 60-80 square feet will accommodate their needs comfortably.
